ProfessorHaiyan Yan, Chief Expert of National Social Science Major Project




ZhongHaiyan, professor, is currently the director of the historydepartment of the School of Humanities and Law of South ChinaAgricultural University, the director of the South China EcologicalHistory Research Center, and concurrently the vice chairman of thePearl River Culture Research Association. The main researchdirections are environmental history and social economic history. Hehas successively hosted 2 projects of National Social Science Fund, 1project of Philosophy and Social Science Planning of the Ministry ofEducation, and several vertical projects at the provincial andministerial level; published papers in journals such as AcademicResearch, Research on Chinese Social and Economic History, andChinese Agricultural History30 In the remaining articles, 2monographs were published and 3 textbooks were edited.


Themajor project of National Social Science Fund in 2019: "Collection,Arrangement and Research of Environmental Historical Materials in thePearl River Delta Coastal Area Since Song and Yuan Dynasties".Main content: The Pearl River Delta has complicated natural andgeographical conditions, criss-cross river networks, and the naturalenvironment of natural endowments deeply affects the historicaldevelopment of the Pearl River Delta. Based on previous studies, theproject intends to examine the environmental and social changes inthe coastal zone of the Pearl River Delta since Song and Yuan fromthe aspects of physical geography, technical facts, and marineenvironment, explore the changes of the bay and marine ecology, andanalyze the civil society ’s Self-regulation and countermeasures,clarify the traditional eco-agricultural model and coastal zonedevelopment, explore the history of human-technology-environmentinteraction, and then reveal the spatial structure and social orderof the social development model in the Pearl River Delta region.
